Well fans were flocking to Harmony Stadium to see the home side,
The Collective Spirit (Judwan) host the visiting Iron Legion (robots) - who
were debuting tonight. The game promised much with the attacking flair of
the Spirit to be tested by the versatility of the robots. What's more the
fans were in for a treat as both sides were granted permission to field a MVP
for this exhibition friendly. The visiting Iron Legion opted for some
speed to add to their line up, hiring the mysterious jack Number 88, whilst the
home fans were to be treated with an appearance by that special robot
DBR7-Firewall taking the pitch for the judwan.
The home side received the ball from the
initial launch and showed their threat immediately by scooping up the loose
ball and scooting around the Legion's left flank, via some space created by
Firewall, for a strike. SPIRIT LEAD BY 1.

The second rush saw a quick reply from the
Legion. One robot - called by his coach "Betty" - made a
transformation into guard mode, and made a bee line for the closest Spirit
player. His shiny new steel spikes found little resistance from the
striker's armour and the result was that Spirit player was taken to the morgue.
With the rest of the Legion's jacks all trying to maneuver and cover the
elusive Spirit strikers, Number 88 took the initiative and picked up the ball
and showed a clean pair of heels to race away for a 4 point strike ending the
rush. IRON LEGION LEAD BY 3
In the ensuing rushes things went downhill
for the home fans with The Spirit failing to capitalise on any opportunities in
attack and The Legion getting brutal with their peace loving opponents.
With a second player put in the morgue and another into the infirmary,
things looked bleak for the Spirit as the chance to score a 3 pointer was
missed, resulting in the ball coming to rest against the wall at the Legion's
end of the pitch.
The Legion descended on the back field of
the pitch to take down the Spirit strikers in the area before clearing the ball
to Number 88 who remained out of the play at the other end of the field waving
to the fans who had come to see him. But
it was the focus on playing the man instead of the ball that would cost the Legion. A superb dodge of a slam by one Spirit strike
saw him presented with the chance to pick up the ball, and he took it with both
hands, dodging and then weaving in for a 3 point strike. SCORES ARE TIED.
The Spirit coach rallied his troops and called for quicker play, A
fortunate launch of the ball saw them take advantage with only 3 of their own
players on their feet, the Spirit stepped up and scored again quickly through
some delightful passing and running. SPIRIT LEAD BY 1.

With only 1 rush remaining for the Legion to pull the game out of
the fire it was a missed opportunity as their coach continued to focus on
attacking the players rather than scoring.
The Spirit held on for a narrow 1 point win but ended the game with 2
deaths and 4 players in the infirmary.
